1. Who can attend ?
All administrative staff and faculty on the Main, Law, and Medical Center Campuses are eligible for these programs. Employees of the Georgetown University Medstar Hospital may attend under a special arrangement and should talk with their HR Department before registering. Hoya Staffing employees must consult with their Hoya Staffing supervisor and their assignment supervisor before registering for any classes. All fees, including non-attendance fees, will be charged to the assignment department, not Hoya Staffing.
2. How long do I have to work at Georgetown University before I start taking classes?
You may start taking classes immediately upon hire.
3. How do I register?
The fastest and most convenient way to register is on our website. You may also download and print the registration form from our website and fax it to 7-6586.
4. Does my manager have to approve my attendance at classes?
Yes. To make the most of these development opportunities it’s important to consult with your manager about which courses you should take each semester. Your manager’s perspective can help you refine your selections and make sure you are taking the right courses that will benefit you the most.
5. What do I do if my manager tells me that I cannot attend classes?
UTD sponsored training is an employee benefit. If you think your manager has unfairly denied a request to enroll in a UTD class you should ask your manager to contact a member of the UTD staff or your HR Generalist to discuss your participation. 6. Do I have to take personal leave to attend the classes?
Training through UTD is an investment Georgetown makes in your professional development. Time off for training is governed by UHR Policy 503.
7. As a Manager, can I require that one of my employees attend training?
Yes. In fact, attending training sessions can be a part of the goals set for employees during the annual review. Managers should discuss training and development goals with their employees at least twice a year – during the annual and interim reviews – and recommend courses that will enable them to develop as individuals and employees.
8. How much are the classes and how do I pay for them?
The employee’s department is charged for all costs. There are no costs associated with most operational training. There is a $250.00 charge for registering for the PMCP program, and a $25.00/class charge for non-PMCP registrants to take PMCP required classes – Fundamentals of Leadership, The Courageous Follower, Practical and Legal Considerations for Managers, Human Resources Policies and Procedures, and Preventing Workplace Harassment. Some classes have additional costs for materials (e.g. Seven Habits). If a registrant is a ‘no show/no call’ for any class – operational or professional development – the department will be charged $50.00.
9. Do I have to already be a manager or supervisor to enroll in the Professional Manager Certificate Program?
No. All employees are eligble to enroll.
10. What do I need to do to get the certificate?

11. May I take classes if I am not enrolled in the certificate program?
Yes, but there is a $25.00 charge for taking PMCP required classes. However, all of your developmental units will count toward the certificate if you decide to later enroll in the program.
12. Do I need Operational Training?
Discuss this with your manager. The Operational Training classes provide skills and information specific to jobs at Georgetown. If you are a long-term employee who has never attended these programs, you can use them to update your knowledge and skills. All new employees should attend the courses relevant to their jobs within their first six months of employment.
13. What other training resources exist at Georgetown?
This could be a very long list! But here are some ideas:
UIS offers training in multimedia development, Web design and HTML, desktop publishing, statistical programs, and the most commonly used software applications and operating systems
Lynda.com offers over 1500 tutorials on multimedia production, design, professional skills, and more, and is available through the Georgetown University Library;
The Center for Continuing and Professional Education offers programs in business, finance, marketing, and policy as well as leadership development and coaching programs; some of the costs of programs may be covered by the Georgetown Tuition Assistance Program, others are free or cost only a modest fee. If you know of other programs that should be listed here let us know and we’ll add them.

14. Can anyone recommend a new course for consideration?

15. I am not a Georgetown employee. Can I take these classes?
Because of space and other enrollment limitations these classes are not open to the general public.
