New Employees

Orientation and Onboarding

Congratulations and welcome to the Georgetown community! You are officially a Georgetown “Hoya”. As a historically Jesuit institution, we believe that serious and sustained discourse amongst people of different faiths, cultures, and beliefs promotes intellectual, ethical and spiritual understanding. We embody this principle in the diversity of our students, faculty and staff, our commitment to justice and the common good, our intellectual openness, and our international character. As a new employee, your unique gifts, perspective, and responsibilities will play an integral role in advancing our values and the University mission.

Resources for Getting Started

Onboarding at Georgetown

To begin the onboarding process, please review and complete the New Employee Onboarding Checklist, which outlines your responsibilities prior to your first day, on your first day, and in the first 30 days of employment.

Attend Orientation(s)

All New Employees are required to  attend New Employee Orientation “NEO” (held bi-weekly on Tuesdays). New Employees will receive an email from Georgetown Management System (GMS) to their Georgetown email and secondary email with an invitation to register for orientation. This information is also outlined in your offer letter. Please register for the orientation session that is held on the Tuesday following your first day of employment in order to have the most beneficial experience. If you do not receive an email invitation, please register for NEO at this link with a GU email and your full, legal name. You may adjust your preferred name later in GMS.

*To maintain a safe and secure environment, employees who register with a non-GU email address will not be admitted to the session. If you do not have your NetID set up by the end of  your first day of employment, please follow these steps to locate your NetID and create an email. If you cannot locate your NetID, please ask your supervisor to contact their departmental HRC for support or utilize a departmental email to attend the session. Additional questions or requests can be directed to learning@georgetown.edu.

Explore and Select Benefits

Learn about the variety of benefits provided through Georgetown University by attending New Employee Benefits Orientation “NEBO” (held biweekly on Tuesdays, 1:00pm-2:00pm). Prior to this session, we strongly recommend watching the Benefits Overview video and reviewing the 2024 Interactive Benefits Guide which outlines benefit plan options and costs, how to enroll in benefits through Georgetown Management System (GMS) and who to contact for additional support. Register for NEBO at this link with your GU email address.

Complete Your I-9

New Employees must complete both sections of the Federally required I-9 Form by the end of the business day on the fourth day of employment (for example, if your offer letter indicates your first day is Monday, both sections must be completed and submitted by Thursday at 4:00pm). You can learn more about this process on the HR I-9 Website and in the New Employee Checklist.

Tour the Hilltop Campus

Join us for an accessible tour of Georgetown’s “Hilltop” Campusto learn more about key campus resources, buildings/spaces, and history. Afterwards, we will enjoy conversation and connection over lunch at Main Campus (provided by HR). This tour is typically hosted on the last Friday of every month.
