Lynn Screen, Director, Learning & Development

Lynn Screen joins the Department of Human Resources as its new Director of Learning and Development (L&D). Under Screen’s leadership, the Learning and Development team will create and expand opportunities for employees to grow and develop professionally as well personally.

1. What is your job title?

University Director of Learning and Development

2. What exactly do you do in your position?

“I provide strategic leadership to create high impact programs and strategies that support and enhance the professional development and continuous learning of staff, managers and leaders.”

3. How do you serve the Georgetown community?

“I have always been drawn to projects involving leadership development around the GU community through the Georgetown Women’s Alliance (GWA) staff/AAP Mentor Program, coaching or advising colleagues across the University, designing & facilitating staff retreats, and serving as a thought partner to turn big ideas into reality.”

4. How long have you been at Georgetown University?

I have been at Georgetown since 2008.  I have held positions in the Center for Language Education & Development, the Office of Global Services, the Institute for Transformational Leadership at SCS, and now University HR.

5. Why did you choose to serve at GU?

“I came to Georgetown to be a part of a large system with all sorts of career opportunities and to contribute to something much bigger than myself.  Over the years, I have found a great deal of meaning in enabling others to use themselves as instruments of change in the world.

6. What’s your hometown?

“I am a child of the U.S. Navy living up and down the U.S. East & West Coasts and in Japan.  My husband and I are raising our children (9 & 6) in the small town of Clifton, VA.”

7. Educational Background

Lynn graduated with a BS from the U.S. Air Force Academy, received an MA from George Washington University in International Education, and gained an Executive Master’s in Leadership from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.

Lynn also obtained certificates from Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) in: Facilitation; Instructional Design; and a current student in Organization Development Consulting & Change Leadership.

8. What are three fun facts that the Georgetown community may not know about you?

I love being in the woods; running, hiking, camping

– I taught Combat Survival Training during the summer in college. 

– I’m a big fan of Japanese Art.
