Joy Jones

Joy Jones is a nationally known and recognized trainer, keynote speaker, playwright, and performer. Joy?s innovative and interactive sessions in cross cultural communication, cultural diversity, career planning, creativity, and African American culture and history provide participants with opportunities for new growth and learning. 

Joy spent 12 years as an educator, trainer, and administrator with the D.C. Public School System. She also designed the communication curriculum and trained for Wider Opportunities for Women’s Nontraditional Work Programs. Her articles and essays have appeared in The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and many magazines. A live recording of Creativity and Spirituality, and an anthology of her performance poetry ? Bad Beats, Sacred Rhythms ? are available on audio cassette. 

Joy?s workshops include topics such as Multicultural Standards of Beauty, She?s Not in Your History Book, Creativity and Spirituality, and Cross Cultural Communication. She is also the author of Between Black Women: Listening with the Third Ear and Tambourine Moon, a children?s book which honors her father.  Joy’s latest book, Private Lessons: A Book of Meditations for Teachers, was just published in 2001.  Her plays have appeared on stages in Washington, New York, Pennsylvania, and California. 

Joy earned a BS in Communication, Magna Cum Laude from the University of Detroit. She has won awards from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Colonial Players Promising Playwrights Competition
