The I-9 process
All new hires and rehires at the Medical Center (Faculty, Staff and Students) need to complete their Form I-9 on or before their first day of employment with a Human Resources Contact. An employee may be asked to stop working until such time as the I-9 form is completed. A new hire can fill out the Form I-9 at any point after an offer is made and accepted.
This offer is conditional upon your eligibility to work in the United States
- On the first day of work – you will receive an email in your Georgetown University email account with instructions for completing Section 1 of the electronic I-9 Form in the Georgetown Management System (GMS).
- Appointments to present the required document(s) may be scheduled prior to your first day of work. You can access detailed information about the I-9 process on the Department of Human Resources website. You will then report to either the Department of Human Resources Office (2115 Wisconsin Ave., Suite 601) or the I-9 Office on Main Campus (White-Gravenor Hall, 3701 P St NW, Washington, DC 20057, Open 9:00am- 4:30pm) (Enter the lower level of the building via the East entrance by the koi pond. The I-9 Office is within the Office of Student Financial Services) with the original, unexpired, required document(s) from the “List of Acceptable Documents” to complete Section 2 of your Form I-9.
- Alternatively, you provide a notarized remote I-9 form. Upon completion, you can return the remote I-9 form, a copy of the acceptable document(s) presented, and the Remote Hire Notice Form to the following email address: I_9_Syn.6lo13xj2c60sretf@u.box.com.

The I-9 form must be completed within three (3) business days in order to be filed in compliance with federal law. In accordance with federal law, if you do not present the required document(s) within the three (3) business days of starting work, the University is required to remove you from payroll, and to not permit you to continue working until you have presented the required documents(s)
