Each year on the fourth Thursday of April, National Bring Your Child to Work Day invites children ages 5-17 to step into the professional world, explore exciting career paths, and experience the workplace in action. It’s a fun and educational day designed to spark curiosity, encourage learning, and inspire the next generation!
This year, Georgetown University’s Department of Human Resources is excited to host a day filled with interactive activities and special perks, including:

Creativity isn’t just about art—it’s about building, designing, storytelling, and problem-solving! On this hands-on, minds-on track, participants will dive into the creative process at Georgetown’s Maker Hub, explore rare artifacts and historical inspiration at the Booth Family Center for Special Collections, and go on an interactive scavenger hunt through Lauinger Library!

The Maker Hub is Georgetown’s hands-on makerspace, where creativity meets technology! In this stop, participants will:

- ✅ Learn how engineers, artists, and inventors bring ideas to life with digital design and fabrication
- ✅ See how creativity plays a role in technology, problem-solving, and innovation

After creating their own designs, participants will journey into the past at the Booth Family Center for Special Collections, where they’ll get a rare hands-on experience with:

Lights, camera, action! 🎬🎶 Step behind the curtain and into the world of performing arts at Georgetown University’s Performing Arts Center. This immersive experience will give young artists and their parents a backstage pass to see what it takes to bring a production to life!

- Behind-the-Scenes Tour – Explore the Gonda Theatre and other performance spaces, where actors, musicians, and dancers bring stories to life. Learn about the technical magic behind the scenes, from lighting and sound to set design and stage management.
- Costume & Props Experience – Step into character! Try on costume pieces and props from past productions and transform into a star for the day.

Walk through the halls where decisions that shaped Georgetown were made, and see the portraits, relics, and artifacts that tell the story of the university’s leadership.
🏛 Old North & Courtyard
Travel back in time to the original center of campus, home to the McCourt School of Public Policy (MSPP) and one of Georgetown’s most historic and culturally significant spaces.

Ever wondered what it takes to be a college athlete? Step into the fast-paced, high-energy world of Georgetown Athletics with this exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the university’s elite sports facilities! Your child will experience a day in the life of a Georgetown University student-athlete! They will have the opportunity to participate in a performance session led by Georgetown Sports Performance staff, who work to enhance athletic performance through strength, power, speed, agility, and mobility training. This session will also emphasize injury prevention, building confidence, fostering a positive self-image, and promoting good nutritional habits.
The Sports Performance Department is dedicated to providing the highest level of education and resources to help athletes maintain peak performance. Your child will engage in hands-on activities, observe training techniques, and have the chance to ask questions as they immerse themselves in this exciting experience—from door in to door out!

With this track, families can choose their own adventure, selecting from any of the exciting activities across our Bring Your Child to Work Day programming. Whether it’s hands-on making, quiet discovery, active exploration, or a mix of everything, the Pioneer Track gives families the freedom to participate in the way that works best for them.

Virtual Reality Track: Step Into the Future, Explore the Past! 🌍🚀

Virtual reality (VR) has infinite uses in entertainment, education, medicine, business, and more. People can play immersive video games, interact with “job” simulators, and create 3-dimensional objects by simply putting on a headset and entering a virtual world. VR provides the ability to experience places you’ve never been—or even places that don’t exist—making it a powerful tool for research, learning, and innovation.
Join staff from the Digital Scholarship and Technology Services Department to discover how students and faculty at Georgetown are utilizing VR technology to enhance their studies. Experience firsthand how VR is transforming education, from simulating complex surgeries to virtually exploring museums across the globe.
