University Human Resources Restructure - Posted June 26, 2015

Earlier this month, the University Human Resources department implemented a new organizational structure. With our new design, we have established functional areas of expertise in Employee Relations, Recruitment and Employment, and Client Services, with Client Services Partners assigned to each campus to maintain close relationships and work more strategically on human capital issues and projects. In each area, the Human Resources team is serving the University in new and important ways:

Employee Relations and Engagement - for consistent assessment and resolution of applicable policy, performance and union contract issues.  Roberta Kelley Paul, University Director of Employee Relations and Engagement, leads this area.

Recruitment and Employment - for attracting and hiring excellent employees and supporting all aspects of the Recruitment and Employment process, including GMS processing, Compensation and Classification and Hoya Staffing.  Laura Bryant, University Director of Recruitment and Employment, leads this area.

Client Services - for close partnering with stakeholders, point of contact on HR issues, and development of strategic programs and initiatives.  Vicki Browne-Moore, University Director of HR Client Services, leads this area. Client Services Partners have been identified for each campus as follows:

Main Campus - Desiree Dunham

Medical Center - Deborah Bassard, HR Director, and Ife Tafari

Law Center - Martha Gooding

University Services - Katina Porter

We are excited about this organizational change and the opportunity this new structure presents to provide more effective, responsive and consistent HR services.

We thank you for your continued support, assistance and feedback!

New University Telework Policy - Posted March 4, 2015

After many months of deliberation, review and refinement, I am extremely pleased to announce that the University has approved the adoption of a formal University Telework Policy (HR Policy #805) covering Staff and AAP employees. The Policy, Application form, Agreement Template and associated documents can be found under the Employment Services section, via the Policies and Forms links.

Anticipating that there may be questions about the new Policy, we have developed an FAQ document that we hope will be helpful in this regard. While we are excited about this policy and the opportunity it offers to consider telework arrangements, please note that careful consideration must be given before requesting the ability to telework. Not all positions are suitable for teleworking, and anyone requesting to telework must provide a detailed description of the manner in which they will perform all of their duties without loss of efficiency or effectiveness. The decision to grant or deny a request to telework is at the discretion of the University. Further details and explanation are available in the Policy and other associated documents.

The Policy will become effective on March 23, 2015. We encourage anyone who may have an interest in teleworking to talk to their supervisor before submitting a formal application. Managers and others who have questions or concerns may contact their campus HR Generalist/Client Services Partner. Employees at the Doha campus should consult with the Human Resources unit at GU-Qatar for applicable forms and other information.

Teleworking provides opportunities to improve work-life balance, reduce commuting time and costs, and enhance the University’s ability to attract and retain top talent. We appreciate your cooperation and assistance as we initiate this new program.

Thank you,

Brenda R. Malone
Vice President for Human Resources and CHRO

New Staff & AAP Performance Review Forms - Posted March 4, 2015

I am pleased to announce that the University has adopted a new form to be used for Staff and AAP performance reviews during the upcoming FY’15 review cycle. The form, guidelines for completion of the form, and a description of the performance review process can be found on the Human Resources website, under News & Updates, and also under the Forms section.

The new form was recommended by a working group that has been meeting and discussing the issue for a number of months. The group, led by John Greeno, Associate VP for Human Resources, consisted of representatives from all campuses as well as the Staff/AAP Advisory Council. The form has been presented to University administrative leadership and approved for use effective immediately.

The form can be completed electronically, then saved and/or printed and emailed to Human Resources at, or it can be printed and completed as hard copy. If you experience issues with completing the electronic form, please print and complete the pdf hard copy version.

I ask that you carefully review the form and guidelines. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your HR Generalist/Client Services Partner.
